On LOST, especially in season one, there was a large focus on the special, maybe even supernatural abilities of the survivors and the characters from their pasts. Most obviously, Claire’s psychic and Walt. But what if there is another character on the island, who also displays the use of a special power/powers, and we just haven't noticed him yet? And could he provide and explanation for the Others' fascination with Walt?

Claire psychic was obviously the one who led her to get on the plane. While Claire herself believes he knew the plane was going to crash, and it was his way of forcing her to raise her child herself, the fan base might not be so sure. There’s the obvious question: we he even actually psychic? That becomes more a debate of personal belief. I’m not going to try to sway you opinion of what you perceive to be possible or not, I don’t even know myself. I do, however, believe that in the context of this show, it’s possible for anything to be reality, and so at that point in season 1, believed that the psychic knew what he was sending Claire into because of is abilities of foresight.

Of course, Eko’s flashback in the episode “?” threw me for a loop. Because there was Mr. Richard Malkin again, this time proclaiming that he was indeed a fraud. So, he didn’t know the plane was going to crash – or did he? There has always been support for the theory that the crash was, in some ways, a set up, That there were certain influential figures in all the characters’ pasts that led them to get on that plane. Perhaps then, Mr. Malkin was only using the disguise of a psychic to convince Claire to get on the flight.

But clearly, Mr. Malkin is not the only one that displayed use of a special ability on our show. How could we forget our dear friend Walt? The episode “Special” seemed to explain a few strange happenings early on the show. How Walt could make the rain suddenly stop in order to force Michael to follow up on his word, and other such occurrences which previously found to be merely strange. We now knew they had a cause, and that cause was the young boy wonder. And of course, we can assume that it is Walt’s abilities which made him so desirable to the Others. Though, for what purpose, we can only speculate about. So I’m going to throw out a theory. Stop reading now if you don’t want to be lightly spoiled about the book Carrie, by Stephen King

After reading the book in the s0 book club, it had all of the participants thinking. Most of the books used on the show contain some connection to the events on the island, at least supposedly. Therefore, speculation began on what the connection could be between LOST and Carrie. Of course, there were a lot of brilliant answers, but one idea caught my eye. (I can't remember precisely who aid it first, or I would credit them).  In the novel, the main character Carrie is telekinetic; simply put, she could move objects with her mind. Interestingly enough, we’ve seen on the show an example of something at least similar to this: Jacob’s cabin scene. The objects in the room flew around, caught fire, broke, all seemingly of their own accords. But whether Jacob is a physical human being, or merely some manifestation of the guiding spirit of the island, we know that he was present there in some form. So what if Jacob is Telekinetic?

This would open up a whole new can of worms, so to speak. Because the Other’s leader having special abilities, and them being after a young boy with special abilities, seems to lead to a few possibilities. Since we have not seen any of the other Others display similar such powers, it might stand to reason that Walt was selected for a kind of training. They subjected him to various tests, perhaps to see if he was going to be able to get up to par with their standards. Perhaps as an apprentice to Jacob himself.

Either way, it seems that the island holds a great number of special abilities itself. The monster, for one, can manifest itself into key figures from out characters’ pasts. Jacob can obviously perform extraordinary feats, whether it is actual Telekinesis or not. So it would seem that the island may on the lookout for both new power leadership, and a new prophet. The combination of John Locke and Walt just might fit that bill in the future.

Oh yeah, I totally tthink time plays into it. I did a time clues article a while back somewhere. I definately think the island is sort of a place where timelines intersect, hence why for Naomi all the survivors were dead, but in the survivor's timeline they are alive. The Orchid video seemed to me like the two rabbits were from different timelines, or something of that nature. Or someone suggested anti-matter. It was a neat video, wasn't it? Very exciting stuff.

mr. Malkin admitted himself to mr. Eko that he accepted money from someone to convince claire to get on the plane

"i'm a fraud, a hack"

So, are you implying the possibility that Malkin was under the employ of someone else who could have actually been a real psychic?

I think he usually wasn't psychic, however when he saw Claire he actually got the flash of whatever he saw (plane crash or something devastating about Aaron). He gave her the money back and told her to leave. This is because he was afraid, he himself didn't know what the heck was going on. Then after he thought about it, he knew he had to tell Claire what she had to do.

I also am now leaning towards Charlie knowing he hould have died long before he did. The reason is he changed his FATE to LATE. Somehow he could feel that he should've died, but he lived.
