I think that the parachutist or Naomi is actually one of the Other Others that the producers talked about way back when. I think these Other Others are either under the ground or the whole island is encased in a snow globe like Desmond said and these people are living above the globe. That explain the wire on the beach, the fact the hieroglyphics mean underworld and the whispers. Just my two cents worth.

i often go on the lost-theories web site and i am called Station0theHub and i think that the other others live in a central station in the middle of the island marked on the lockdown map
