They didn't waste any time did they? Right off the bat we got some serious action. Car chases, surgeons drinking screwdrivers with breakfast, and just all around mayhem. Our show is BACK! There wasn't much downtime in this one either. Every minute was packed with some kind of tension, or at least it seemed that way because I was completely glued to the screen for the entire show.
Instead of doing a blow by blow, I'm going to just make some observations and hopefully answer some questions along the way. That said, I'm sure you guys feel the same way I do when I say that this episode raised a lot of questions and didn't deliver many answers. I know Carlton and Damon are sitting in their houses right now laughing at us.
The main question on everyone's mind since the end of last season is: "Who was in that casket?" Well, we STILL don't know. Tonight we were only given a sliver of information on that front. We saw that before the "rescue" the Losties split into two camps. One camp is the "I'm getting the hell of the island" camp (Jack's crew). The other is the "Charlie said that it wasn't Penny's boat and I'm not going to risk finding out" camp (Locke's crew). We can assume that whoever was in the casket probably went with Locke and got on Kate's bad side since in the Season Three finale, she wondered why Jack thought she'd be at the funeral.
Therein lies another question: "What happened on that Island?" The Oceanic Six, which includes Hurley who went with Locke, seem to be the only ones who made it back home. There's a LOT of other people left to be accounted for. What on earth could have led to some people from each group going home and the rest being left behind?
I could literally go on and on and put forth dozens of questions, but I won't. We're all asking them anyway. If you feel the urge, go ahead and ask your questions below. Propose some answers. Give us your opinion on the episode in general. I, for one, thought this episode took a lot of the old formula and sprinkled in some new stuff. We've reached a turning point in the overall story and I have a feeling that from now on action and suspense are going to be the name of the game.
See you next time...

Why did Desmond go on Team Jack? Shouldn't "Not PENNY'S Boat" apply to him the most, and thus he should side with Locke?

Was the person looking back at Hurley from Jacob's house......Hurley? Tried to think who it could be and decided it could either be someone that had died on the island already or Hurley himself? What do people think?

From what I could tell I thought "Jacob" looked much like Jacks father who is running around the island. Also since the last missing pieces showed him being about and setting Jack on the mission via Vincent, since the get go.
As far as Kate is concerned I would have to speculate that sawyer "James" was the one in the casket. He betrayed Kate by going with Lock to "survive". This would be a straight shot at their romance and a woman scorened. The question then would be who was she going back to that night after meeting jack?
As far a the rescue team I have a theory on that. Could penny have had a spies on the boat? Just like the survivors who are devied on their pourpose, is it not logical that the boat (much like an island in the middle of the sea) may be devided? The fact is that linus is convinced that they are all going to die ( but then again hes a good liar) so if any of them survived it would stand to reason that someone on the bat saved them. It would seam that the lady (i forget her name) was trully trying to save them. A well as the idividiual who spoke with her. I I would theorize that there are spies on the boat with their own agenda which includes saving the survivors. The actual pourpose of the ship is something else " as shown in the preview" but also on the preview "I will tell you the real reason" two contradictory statements ( assuming that they come from the crew members. This also would fit with hurleys apology to jack as far as not going with him
Penny's lack of te womans name coudl justmean tthat she was not her main contact. Many employees only know their surpervisors names but the Big Boss.
What I noticed in Lost and forgive me for sayinf this t the converted. Alot of their plot lines are comeons. Clairs baptism, Echos past, walts powers, and so many others. It makes them very hard to follow since you never know which is a miningfull event. Is it an actuall tie-in or just a bump to get the waggon rolling. I hope this casket issue is resolved. If it is not or if they "promise to eventually reveal it" as other parts that have not come into fruitionit, then may be show that finds it self in the casket with no visitors at its wake.

Can anyone answer this... Why didn't Charlie try to swim out the broken window after the room filled up with Water??? Are we all sure Charlie is dead???
Posted by: Stacy | February 2, 2008 4:19 PM
Sorry, Stacy. As much as different possibilities have been discussed, it's certainly confirmed that Charlie IS dead.

so, why was Christian in Jacob's chair...was that a confirmation that Jack's dad is dead?
and Matt -- I'm pretty sure that eye was Patchy's.

The eye looking back at Hurley was Locke's. If you pause it and look at the color of the eye and then moments later Locke finds Hurley on the ground. Look at Locke's eyes they're the same color as the one peeping through the broken glass

Some must die. I know Charlie is small in stature but do you really think he could squeeze out that port hole? I don't understand why he just didn't run out and he and Desmond could escape the way the entered.
But in order to keep the madness going and fullfill Desmond,s vision he didn't. This really, as I really felt all along, is a story of a crazy person living out a fantasy in his mind. Hurly has the most bizzare and strange events and the story twists and turns on his thoughts. He has all the signs of of a lonely, unsuccessful, depressed soul. Here he fantazies about being a lottery winner, finds love in Abby, always is trying to do things (golf course, the van) to get people to like and respect him. And of course is a hero for saving the guys on the beach by running his van over the others. There are clues in the psych ward, thats where the "numbers" came from, pictures of tropical islands. Hurly's father was not much of a factor in his life which ties into all the father fiqures, and his mom was very religious which ties into all the faith issues.
I could go on but this is a dream fantasy of a disturbed Hurly. We just have to see how all the charactors became a part of Hurly's world.
Maybe I,m crazy but I think its that simple.

If this is all a dream of Hurley's I'm going to be very very angry.

Yeah me too. Correction on my mistake I meant Libby mot Abby. But my feeling that Lost is just a grand dillusion of Hurley's mind still stands. Remember he has great guilt for the people killed when the deck collapsed he blames himself because of his weight. That maybe part of the reason he's in the psyhc ward.
Hurley reads comic books which may explain alot of the strange events, characters and some of the mysteries of the Island. I mean come on, cripples being healed(Locke), cancer cured(Rose), infertility(Jin). And what of our characters themselves the heroic doctor who preforms miracle surgeries, the beautiful fugative, the rugged, handsome conman, loser in life Locke turning into Rambo, It just seems like a real good novel. There was an epsisode, maybe season 3 when Hurley had a date with Libby that really started me believing in this theory. Some events might be real, like Oceanic air flight 815 found at the bottom of the ocean, but Hurley may have read about the missing flight and dreamed up this dillusion.
How about Michael being in the coffin at the end of season 3? Since he killed Libby in Hurley's mind he should die and no one would attend his funeral. Ah justice served.
One last thing for now, why did Hurley decide to stay on the island? Because if he left maybe the fantasy would end and he would just be psyhc ward Hugo!! Because the reality is he is in a psyhc ward and this story is all in his mind.

I think it is Sawyer in that casket. And I also think when Kate says she has to get back to him, she is referring to the son she and Sawyer conceived on the island? That's my theory and i'm sticking with it.
