I've got to tell you, while this episode did give us a bunch of "revelations", I might actually be more confused than ever. From what I can tell there are essentially three "sides" in the mix here. There's the Losties (nevermind that they're currently split in two), then there's the Ben side, and finally the Widmore side. Clearly, there's a battle raging between the Ben and Widmore sides and our Losties are caught in the middle. There's also some fogginess about who is in which side at any given moment. See my confusion?
Anyway, tonight we learned how Michael became Kevin and how he wound up on the boat. As we could have guessed, Ben used his powers of manipulation to get Michael on the boat. But the really nutty thing about it all is that apparently the Island helped. All the while I've been thinking that there's a group of people somewhere powerful enough to coordinate events in such a way that people wind up on the island. It seems the island itself is capable of manipulating events too. Michael, depressed about what he'd done to get off the island (i.e. killing Libby and Ana Lucia), attempted suicide but the Island wouldn't let him. First he survives a head on collision with a cargo container, then the bullets in his gun won't fire. The skeptics among you may suggest that Tom switched the bullets on him in the alley, but that would mean they knew Michael didn't have anymore bullets somewhere, which I find highly unlikely. So I'm going with the island causing the bullets not to fire and that is plain nuts, but that's what I'm sticking with.
Another revelation is that smokey isn't contained to the Island. We all heard that horn / dinosaur / monster sound right before Libby popped up in the engine room. There may be a more plausible explanation like psychic projection or Michael just being crazy but I've thrown logic out the window for the most part. One day it will all hopefully fall into place but for now, I think smokey traveled off the island even if it was really quick.
So back to the Island. The Locke camp has a pow-wow to put everything on the table. "No more secrets", claims Locke. Yeah right. Nothing is really resolved except that now they all know that Michael's on the boat. When the meeting is adjourned Ben gets Alex, Karl, and Danielle alone for a couple of minutes and convinced them that they need to head to the temple to protect Alex. It was actually a convincing argument, but what happened en route leaves me skeptical. Someone capped Karl and Danielle out in the woods and, you guessed it, we won't find out until April 24th at the earliest. Did Ben set that up? Are there more of Widmore's people on the Island already? Where'd they get the silencers?
The good news is that we are supposed to find out a lot more of what happened before the Oceanic 6 made it home in the coming episodes. The bad news is that it is going to be a month before we get any new answers or questions or whatever. This damned writer's strike really messed up the non-stop season we were all hoping for... bigtime... GRRRR.
