I'm in two places at once right now.  I'm completely thrilled that they've once again broached new ground with those pre-introduction flashbacks.  At the same time, I'm very frustrated at the litany of additional question we were posed with this week.  They've taken the mystery building to new levels in the first two installments of Season Four.

Many have speculated that the "freighter people" were some kind of elite mercenary force out to clean up the mess left behind by the now defunct Dharma Initiative.  Well, that's not exactly the case is it?  That crew is about as motley as our beloved losties.  I like how we learned about them and with each introduction, the list of questions grew longer and longer.

Take Daniel, for example.  We learn in his flashback that he was watching the coverage of the alleged discovery of the wreckage of Flight 815 (find815 players may have noticed the tie-ins, which was cool)  and he was overcome with sadness.  What the heck was that all about?  Had the team already been formed?  Did he realize he would have to do something he didn't want to do?  Or is he just emotional freak who was a little to invested in the happenings of 815?

Then we meet Miles and we were treated to one of those "OMG, what the...?" moments we all treasure.  A ghost whisperer?  A friggin GHOST whisperer?  And a crooked one, to boot.  I knew that when Desmond started seeing visions of alternate realities and timelines that all bets were off, but this was totally unexpected.

A hint of who is behind the "team" finally came with the introduction flashback of Charlotte.  Out in the desert, she and a colleague go to an excavation site and find inspect the skeleton of a polar bear.  Of course it wasn't an ordinary polar bear.  This is Lost.  It was a polar bear with a collar with a very familiar logo on it.  DHARMA!  And Charlotte knew what it was.  Who does she work for?  Why did she know the logo?  Why wasn't she even remotely phased by the fact that there was a polar bear skeleton buried in the desert?

The last member of the four team crew we met was Frank.  His introduction, in my opinion, raised the most compelling question from an overall Lost mythology perspective.  We see Frank watching the news footage of the discovery of the wreckage and he notices that the pilot being shown under the sea was not his friend, Seth Norris.  He knows it isn't because the body lacks a ring that Seth apparently never took off.  How does he know Seth so well?  Frank was supposed to be piloting Flight 815 instead of Seth.  WHAT?  People have been speculating since the first season that the plane crashed not by chance, but by design.  Someone somewhere wanted the losties to be on that Island.  I had always assumed that it was a group of people who had the ability to coordinate these "coincidences".  Now I'm not so sure.  With the future-seeing, ghost whispering, and other supernatural aspects of the Lost world, I'm becoming more convinced that it isn't humans pulling the levers behind the curtain.  I guess I've been holding on to the hope of some kind of rational explanation.  Silly me.

Our last flashback was of a dead person, Naomi.  I can't remember if that's ever happened before, but we learn some valuable information with this one.  Abbadon is the ring leader of the freighter people and Naomi is the leader who knows more about the true reasons for this missions than the rest of the team.  We do know one thing:  The team is after Ben.  Why?  We can only speculate, but it has to be related to a certain mass murder.

So when all of that was going on, we were treated to a few enlightening moments.  The one that sticks out in my mind the most was very subtle.  When the Locke-camp is on its way to the cabin, Hurley says that it was in another direction than the one they were headed.  Locke and Ben realize that Hurley had seen the cabin and realize Hurley might be "in tune" with the Island like they were.  I'm eager to learn more of what this could possibly mean.  The other really enlightening moment wasn't so subtle.  Our boy Ben knew everything about Charlotte.  How?  He has a spy on the freighter.  This is getting very very interesting, no?

I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff, but the bottom line is that while this installment was very good it was also very frustrating.  I know I shouldn't expect more answers but dammit, I want them!  And NO, we STILL have no idea who's in that coffin!

See you next week!

Ok, call me crazy. Did anyone else notice this?? I'm almost positive that Daniel A.K.A the guy that got upset while watching the footage of 815 was called Sam (but he looked like Daniel)so I think Sam really is Daniel. I need to go back and watch the episode.
