Born by a Peruvian mother and a Scottish/Irish father, Henry Ian Cusick plays the role of Desmond Hume in Lost. Raise in Trinidad and Scotland, Cusick trained at the The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Joining the Glasgow Citizens Theatre, Cusicks became one of the busiest theatre actors in the whole of Great Britain. He worked for company's such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal National Theatre, 7:84 Theatre Co., Citizens Theatre and The Theatre Babel.
Soon enough, Cusick worked his way into mainstream television acting. He starred as a German agent in the program 24, before partaking in his role as Desmond in Lost. He acquired this role rather peculiarly. While staying with actor Brain Cox, he bumpred into Carlton Cuse, Cox's next door neighbour. Later auditioning for the role of Desmond, it wasn't until the scripts were sent away that Cuse remembered their meeting months before!
Cusick and his wife, Annie, parent three children; Esau, Lucas and Elias. The couple married in 2006.
In his role as Desmond, Cusick plays an unfortunate fellow washed up on the island while taking part in a boat race. After pushing a button for Dharma for 3 years, Desmond turned the failsafe key after a turn of events that eventually lead to him developing what semed like the power to see the future. It is later revealed that he does not in fact see it -he lived it.
