In last night's episode we learned a couple of things. I'll start with the first. Smokey can take the shape of anyone. It appeared to Eko in the form of his brother, Yemi. This means that Smokey probably appeared to Jack as Christian (Jack's father), was probably Kate's black horse, and more than likely was Boone who took Locke on a mind trip. Smokey could be anyone.

While in the Pearl, we got a clearer picture of Patchey. His face looked familiar so I did a little digging. Then BAM!! Patchey is the WISHMASTER! Don't believe me? Look for yourself. It's HIM! I've got it all figured out. The Island is really the home of the djinn from Wishmaster. It all makes sense now.
Okay, okay... It's just the same actor. Thought I'd have a little fun with it. I've always liked Andrew Divoff as a villian so I hope Patchey gets some more air time on the show. We shall see.

Nah- remember what New Girl sez: "There must be other experiments..." So- Patchy is probably another operative doing research in another field in another hatch. In fact- we know that he was aware of Locke when we first spy him- so maybe he was watching the whole time? We know that Dharma was researching animals from the orientation films (hence the Polar Bears and the fact that Jack, Kate, & Sawyer are all in cages- i.e. a ZOO!), so maybe his job is to keep an eye (pardon the pun) on the fauna, which had escaped into the wilds of the island? Maybe the Smoke Monster is a new kind of animal- (though if you asked me: I think its mechanical).

After entering the numbers in the computer wich was standing inside the first hatch. The clock restarted the countdown 108 min.

i think that smokey does take on physical shapes of live bodies, because right before shannon died she saw walt appear in the forest and whispered. but walt was alive because we saw him leaving alcatraz with his father being released by the others. but if you say the others stay in their island because they know that smokey cant get to them thn why did he take on the shape of walt, when walt was in alcatraz the entire time that shanon saw him?

well you may be right, but i just sayd that the others stay in the island because they know smokey makes some dreams come true, i dont think the others control it i frankly think it does whatever it wants
