The Star Ledger reported the following:
Nestor is now a regular on "Cane," CBS' Cuban-flavored "Godfather" homage, with him as the Sonny Corleone figure in a family of rum and sugar magnates. When asked whether she'd let Carbonell do a guest spot if the "Lost" producers asked, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler answered: "Probably not," arguing that they're trying to establish a new show and a new character, and she felt it would confuse the audience to see Carbonell playing roles on two different series at once.
So, will the loss of Carbonell in his role as Richard damage Lost? In my opinion, I think not. As we know, Richard is currently leading The Others to The Ruins, out of sight of the main characters. However, there are a variety of ways he could be written out of the show, be it death, abandoning the others or one of countless other possibilities. Still, the loss of a good actor and interesting character will be sorely missed by his fans.
