Shrinking ratings, kvetching cast members, acrid lashings from the press, is 'LOST' finally escaping the 'Golden Show' halo it has worn for two years now?  Proof that the press has grown weary of mindlessly supporting the show can be seen in the four corners of the world in the wake of the season three premiere with everything from subtle jabs over the ailing numbers to prognostications of doom over LOST losing it's Wednesday 9:00 crown to 'Criminal Minds'.  I say, who cares.

It's never been about LOST being the best over-all; it's about LOST being LOST, that is all that matters to me.  I couldn't care less if the show is number one in Nielsen ratings or not.  Ultimately, the ratings are only estimates any way, drawn from a select group of viewers.  And we here in the USA, of all places, should know how accurate 'exit polls' are these days.

And the stories of the dissatisfied cast,  with Dom coming out about how dissatisfied he is in working with the cast;  isn't that really just Dom expressing some 'professional' despair over screentime?

Tv.com went as far as to suggest that if the numbers "trended" as they did last year, starting with 4 million fewer viewers, that the show could be in danger of cancellation.

It's sad that with all this negative media sooth-saying, the press has ignored the fact that the season premiere brought some of the best critical acclaim to the show since it's pilot touched ground two years ago.    Add that to the fact that JJ Abrams has indicated that they will be departing from the "shoot-from-the-hip" writing of Season Two and move more towards an overarcing plan.  That is the kind of work that will bring those viewers back.

But even if they don't, it won't matter.  LOST has always been the best show on television to its fans, but never the #1 over all show in ratings or even its time-slot consistently, so should we worry that things are just as they always have been?  Nah.
