Knowing what we know about living until you fulfill your purpose with the island. What was Eko's?

It can't be baptizing Aaron, cause he lived for a while after that. It can't be pushing the button, cause John locked him out and the hatch exploded. What was it?

Maybe his statement to Yemi?
That he wouldn't apologize for what he did.
He did the best he could with what he was given.

I would really need to see the timeline where that is said though, I don't recall.
