When he killed the man on the golf course, he walked through the sprinklers that turned on afterwards

He speaks to ben on the cellphone and pitches it, immediately grabs snow with the same hand he held the phone with and then tosses the snow aside.

He's just simply trying to wash away his sins. He's not happy with what he is doing, but knows he has to do it.
