i'm posting this on sam's behalf cause i think it has a good chance of being dead on balls accurate. assuming that ben's murderous antics are the motivating factor for the FP to find ben, someone HAD to get the news that ben off'd dharma back to the mainland....samhain (SuperGenius) proposed this theory:
From Chat
[Samhain] 7:50 pm: how did the off islanders find out ben killed off dharma and was in charge now?
"I figured it out. Ben kills off dharma. Someone is still in the swan (radzinksi). He finds out that the hostiles have taken over, and sends off a message to dharma that Ben killed them all and are taking over. Ben refilms the swan video, w/ marvin, and ensures that it says, "don't contact the outside world". Radzinski figures out that what remains of dharma is actually the hostiles, removes the section from the tape and starts trying to figure out how to get off the island and help dharma."
[Samhain] 7:53 pm: maybe
enter kelvin as Fake Dharmite who offs radzinski when radzinski's plans were uncovered? or was he in league with radzinski as a Real Dharmite?

Ok, Im taking Sams theory and adding a bit more.
Abbadon is Dharma, and so are the rest of the people on the frieghter. They are there to capture and hold Ben for the reason Sam states above.
Dharma/Maxwell/Widmore faked the plane crash site at the bottom of the ocean. They faked it so that no one would stumble upon the island. They knew excatly where the plane crashed. This is why they sent Sam Thomas on that boat, handed him the exact coordinate, so that he would find it. They knew it was on the island, how Im not sure. But that exchange between Naomi and Matthew was very telling.
"What if we run into the 815 survivors?"
"There were NO survivors."
At first I assumed that maybe Naomi knew more than what she should, but hearing it a second time, I think it was Abbadon cementing her real mission in her head because of the fake crash.
Thats why Charlotte and Dan were so obsessed with it when they saw it on the news. They knew it was a fake, and new what they had to do when they got to the island.
Kill the survivors to cover up the fake crash.
In the Canadian preview for next week, (I haven't seen ABC's so Im not sure if it showed this, so I'll spoiler it)
Hurley asks Miles if its true that the people on the boat are going to kill them, Miles responds with a "Not yet"
This is also why Lapidus was chosen. He clearly identified the crash as a fake, so Dharma swept in and made a deal for his silence.

I like where the rest is going, but what "deal" was struck with Lapidus... so you're the pilot who was supposed to be flying the plane that day, and it crashed. PHEW... weren't you lucky...
you then see a newscast that you know is fake, so you're reward for keeping your mouth shut is to go on a mission to an island? I don't buy that completely...
My theory on Lapidus is that he cheated fate... he was supposed to crash on that island, but didn't fly the plane. Now whether he knew it would crash, or he just got sick that day, I'm not sure, but he cheated death. The Mystery Group (Abaddon or DHARMA) no what that island is capable of. It will bring who it wants... in my opinion, who has a better chance of "stumbling" onto the island, than the guy who was originally supposed to fly the plane? Till I learn some other part of his story, I think he was chosen b/c the island should have grabbed him originally. He's the best choice of getting everyone else there.

Interesting. Could this be another example of the universe course correcting?

Or maybe the Mystery Group picked the pilot because he obviously knows it's a cover up. So they get him to the island on false pretenses. He goes because he's curious and wants to solve a mystery. Once they are on the island and complete their mission the pilot gets killed. Maybe Naomi was supposed to off the pilot.
