They are officially called stations. This is either a continuity error or a station created later, and therefore dubbed a hatch to keep up with modern language. Personally, i'm going continuity.

if you look at picture number 2, why is the scale in miles and not in a lower scale and why up to 4 miles. also how did the others also find this station, this leads me to believe this is a fake station, this was whey too close to shore in shallow water, and what about the second sub, the first one locke blew up was too big to fit in this station.
