The Beginning of the End
Anyone else scratching their heads wondering what is going on? I am. I'm not sure how I feel about the direction LOST has taken with these first three episodes.
Did setting off the nuke work? (Should we be trying to define exactly what "worked" means?) At first, it looked like the explosion had its desired effect. All the Losties were on 815 and then BOOM they're also still on the Island. Talk about a total "HUH?" moment. Dead people were alive (Charlie, Arzt, Boone). What the hell was Desmond doing there? Was he actually there? I have to say, for most of the first two episodes I was experiencing some MAJOR cognitive dissonance (Google it).
I'm also torn on the whole "antilocke" / Mr. Black / whatever-the-hell-his-name is storyline. Although I do like that we know he's Smokie too, but that creates all kinds of questions for which, predictably, we don't have any answers... yet. I guess I just don't like the fact that John Locke appears to be dead and this... thing... has taken over his body. That's LOCKE, dammit. Don't hijack his body.
Claire's back, which is nice. There's the young, pregnant, about to give birth to Aaron Claire and then there's the crazy looking one who saved Jin from the OTHER Others. You know, the Others that aren't part of Ben's group of Others who knocked off the Dharma people and took over their camp. The guys who just brought Sayid back to life only to turn around and try to kill him a couple of hours later. For once, Jack's lack of faith actually saved someone. (Yes, I do realize that there's a chance Sayid isn't really Sayid anymore.)
And that's really the "thing" right now. Everything we "knew", I mean really "knew", has once again been tossed out the window. I guess we shouldn't be surprised since they do it every season at least once or twice, but this is the FINAL SEASON. We're three episodes in and I think many of us were hoping they would start wrapping this up in a nice little bow for us. BUT NO! They couldn't just give us a ton of answers to the questions of previous seasons. They just had to feed us a tidal wave of new questions with a fire hose right off the bat.
I hate those LOST writers. And by "hate", I mean I love 'em. They really know how to stretch the boundaries of the imagination while still delivering personal stories that we can all relate to and connect with. Genius.
Stay tuned for more as we travel through the end of what has been an amazing ride.
