I've said it before and I'll say it again:  Locke-centric episodes never disappoint.  I'm a fanboy and have yet to watch an episode I didn't like at some level but Locke episodes are my favorite.

Maybe it is because Locke is such a central part of the story arc and I feel that his episodes really move things forward.  Maybe Locke is just a great character.  Whatever it is, I'm always left with a feeling of satisfaction after them.  Last night was no different.

As usual, the answers we were given added more questions but after all that time traveling stuff, it was nice to finally have a chance to reset and get a glimpse of what is going on.

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF JEREMY BENTHAM
Episode 5.07
.....................................................................................................................
With a title like this episode boasts, I expect it to be epic.

We open within the darkness of an office burglary…an old Dharma station, actually.  Maps are being examined and “Cesar” finds a sawed-off shotgun under a desk. There is a plane parked in the jungle and John Locke is alive and kicking and doing his best Obi-Wan impersonation, including cool robe—head covered.

The next morning, on the beach, John contemplates the ocean. He meets “Alana.”

These are the other people on the most recent plane crash. Locke wants a passenger list and Alana wants to know why John wasn’t seen on the plane. John explains his mysterious appearance with an “I remember dying” response that seems to work.

I’m suddenly hungry for a mango.

316
Episode 5.06

While watching tonights’ re-cap episode, I Googled “temporal displacement”…the term was used in the “recap-with-info” running of last weeks show to describe the “constant sickness” which makes noses bleed and people die.

Interesting results.

Just like in the first show of the first season, Jack opens his eyes after the plane crash…this time, he’s hearing Hurley’s cries for help. Jack takes a high-dive into a pond to catch up with the big-man and a guitar case. Kate is there, too…they’re back! 46 hours earlier, Ms. Hawking is spinning her magic…with a partial reunion of the Oceanic 6. She has her own Dharma station—the lighthouse-ee one (the lamp post). She’s got all kinds of crazy countdown stuff, too. She claims that this station is how the Dharma Initiative found the island.

Her grin reminds me of the grandmother I never wanted.

Yeah, yeah... So I skipped last week.  Sue me.

Anyway, did this thing take a turn for the surreal or what?  I mean, it has always been surreal and mysterious and nutty, but they just cranked it up several notches.  And don't even get me started on the significance of 316 and JOHN Locke and all that stuff.

The really cool thing is that while they did the typical piling on of questions, the Lamp Post Station put a nice end to all the questions about how Dharma was able to find the Island.  There's still the question of how much Ben knows and how he had been able to come and go as he pleased in the past.  I guess he just recreated the way he got there to begin with?  And what's up with THAT concept?  The O6 can never leave again or they will all have to get on the same plane again and that might get them on a watch list... hehe.

This Place Is Death!
(episode 5.05)
‘Wonderful title for an episode...

We find Sun in her car with Aaron and her gun when a phone call from her daughter interrupts her. Instantly, Sun has Ben at the business-end of a quality, American-made semi-automatic weapon. Ben talks his way out of a bullet…again.

We’re back to the Frenchies and Jin on the beach…they’re from Tahiti in 1988! Jin agrees on a little trek to the radio tower, then, on to a camp that isn’t there. We see who we presume to be Alex’s father hugging and smooching Danielle. In the jungle, things get freaky. “Monster,” Jin proclaims. One of their group is missing and they trek backwards—scared and confused.

Smokie’s finally back, and, he likes French food…one arm or less, please.

The Little Prince
Episode 5.04

The opening scene takes us back to Penny’s boat during the Oceanic 6 rescue. Jack and Kate enjoy a nice moon-light talk about Aaron, and lying and Sawyer and how to lie really good. Flash forward to Sun and Kate and Aaron three years later. Turns out, pretty little Sun received a special delivery that includes surveillance pics of Jack and Ben—she got a new gun, too. For some reason, she’s a bit angry.

Charlotte is down, bloody and unresponsive. The Losties are lost as to what to do.

Kate wants to cut a deal with the legal team looking for bloodwork. Baby Aaron is at stake and Kate is in a state of panic by the time the meeting is over.

Locke explains to a surely Sawyer about his plan to get the Oceanic 6 back to the island to make things right. Locke wants to go to the Orchid station as a starting off point for his plan. Sawyer agrees and they trod off. Locke seems driven by destiny and Sawyer seems as pliable as a tissue.

There's been a theory, or a collection of theories, floating around for years.  The "Time Loop" theories have been around since around Season 2, I think.  I've resisted it since I first heard about it because I really really hate time travel in my fiction.

It is starting to look like those people were on to something.  As much as I hate to admit it, there seems to be a time loop thing going on here and we may even find out that all the "mysterious" stuff on the Island is basically a product of the Losties time traveling.

That would suck.
