Are you kidding me?

WIDMORE???

Stay tuned for our recap of the episode but the bombshell (pun intended) that was dropped on us tonight deserved some special attention.  I, for one, need some time to wrap my head around the implications of a young Charles Widmore being introduced to us tonight.

And that's not even the half of what we learned tonight.  I mean seriously... the "next on LOST" previews even gave us plenty to chew on.

JUGHEAD

episode 5.03

We find Desmond scrambling through an island village, screaming for a doctor and dealing with a sick girlfriend, Penny. Not sick—instead, giving birth! It’s a boy…and we are treated to yet another tender moment between the best couple on the show before “flashing” forward. Desmond is loving and gentle with an older son while Penny is still freakin’ pissed and afraid of her father and warns Desmond not to get comfortable with things.

The Island folk are wading through the lush greenery in the daytime when Charlotte and Faraday half-way confront her mysterious illness.

Action and drama take control as the island wanderers are attacked by an old branch of what appears to be the Dharma Initiative…and we learn that Daniel Faraday has, in fact, met these people before. Many of the Dharmites appear to be archery fans. Of course, there are some NRA-supporters in the mix, as well.

BECAUSE YOU LEFT (episode 5.01)
THE LIE (episode 5.02)

The opening scene features and alarm clock going off at 8:15 and a tidbit of Dr. Marvin Candle’s life in the early days of Dharma. Faraday is there…and the “donkey wheel” of island-moving fame is discovered. The outline of the wheel can clearly be seen on a “sonar” image presented to Candle…or Wang…or whoever the hell he is. He does feature two functioning arms, though.

Time travel takes its’ toll on the inhabitants of the island as they find their camp has totally disappeared during the bright light of the island move. Come to find out, the island has moved “back” in time. Scenes with the Losties tromping through the jungle provide more information on exactly what this type of time-phenom is doing to the island, per the soft-spoken wit of Doc Faraday.

Jack and Ben begin the early stages of getting “the six” plus John Locke back to the island.

Locke has lost his Other pals in the move as well. Later on, we watch him re-live the crash of the plane carrying those cool drug-filled Virgin Mary statues in which Boone eventually dies in. And, our old friend Ethan shows up with bullets and good questions. The island apparently moves again just before Ethan delivers ultimate justice to our quivering friend, Locke. Still, John the faithful ends up with a bullet in his leg and hiding in the jungle.

After the first break, Kate finds herself feeling pressure from legal dudes demanding to prove Aaron and her blood relationship. Kate does what she does best—runs! Shifting to the island, Sawyer slaps Faraday…and the Losties finally get some type of explanation as to what’s happening. Time travel--like a broken record with a skipping needle.

Sun and Widmore have a great little meeting in an Airport holding cell. “To kill Benjamin Linus.” Meanwhile, Hurley and Sayid are trash-talking Ben just after breaking Hurley out of the mental ward and just before killing a few more dudes at a safe-house. Hurley gets his first feel of gun-metal and ends up saving Sayid after a dart-shot.

“We never should have left that island.”

The next major scene involves Locke being healed of his bullet wound and being told about the Oceanic 6 having to return to the island and, in the process, he himself will have to die. This is all good news delivered by Richard Alpert, himself.   Locke is given a cool compass to help him during the next time jump.

Miles, Charlotte, Faraday, Juliet and Sawyer are being bounced around in time like foosballs…Sawyer is pissed and Charlotte develops a small nosebleed. Faraday knows what’s going on and summons Desmond from the original hatch. This is a major time-travel clue scene…that concludes with Penny and Desmond waking up together…several years after the rescue. They’re off to Oxford!

There is a tremendously powerful scene onboard the Searcher (Penny’s boat) after the rescue…the words “Three Years Earlier” appear just before.

The next scene finds Hurley and Sayid fresh off the safe-house incident, being pulled over by the police. We witness the return of a murdered LOST hottie…in uniform, giving advice to Hurley, passing on messages to him from other “dead” survivors.

To this point, this was my favorite scene.

Sawyer bullies Frogurt’s shirt away from him and finally covers his chest…and abs…and nipples…and perfect freakin’ tan.

Sayid and Hurley are in trouble and Hurley has to go into a convenience store to buy stuff…while Sayid is still passed-out in the car…the song “Dream Police” by Cheap Trick is playing in the background. Very cool. Possibly clue-tastic!

Jack and Ben are teamed up and getting ready to go to work while Locke is being stored in a carpet-delivery van. Hurley shows up at his home with a sedated-Sayid over his back and his dubious daddy, David Reyes, answering the door. Hurley calls him “dad,” which I found a bit weird. Yet, Romeo Reyes finds a way to help out his son, keep the police away and almost redeem himself.

Ben has a wonderfully close relationship with a female butcher!

Finally, we see Vincent…on the beach with the struggling Losties. No fire, lots of bickering, and Charlotte and Faraday share a talk about reality.  Miles shows up with “dead meat” and, then, after a  Frogurt/Sawyer showdown, all hell breaks loose. The much beloved Frogurt gets ultimate heartburn as fire rains down from the sky.

Sun and Kate share some tea, talk about kids and emotions begin to come to the surface. Sun is convinced and tries to convince Kate that Aaron is in danger and Kate needs to continue hiding “The Lie” and keep protecting Aaron. This is a major part of the storyline and we’re strongly led to believe that Sun knows much more about their situation that Kate has even considered.

Hurley and his mom have a talk during which he tries to explain the entire activity on the island during the crash…it’s a bit sad. It’s a powerful moment when Hurley’s mom states, “I believe you.”

Sawyer and Juliet find themselves in the dark jungle and suddenly captured by the “old” Dharma Initiative. Locke comes to the rescue…he’s still good at tossin’ knives. Next, Ben shows up in Hurley’s house, right in the middle of a micro-waved “something.” The scene is “ultimate Ben” with lots of great facial expressions and obvious BS and Hurley almost breaking…but in the end…giving himself up to the cops just to escape Linus’s wrath.

The premier concludes within a highly religious set…many candles…and Ms. Hawking and Ben whispering the darkest of things to each other—setting the tone for the most compelling season of television viewing ever witnessed by man.
Will.
