He basically said that this one, shocking twist would be the moment that polarizes viewers... either their mind will be blown and start getting "Lost" tattoos, or they will scream in frustration, turn the television off and vow not tow atch anything but "American Idol" from now on.
What could TPTB possibly be planning...? Let's remember, these are the people who have already had a button that could destroy the world, a suburb-like community in the middle of a deserted island, a monster composed of black smoke that can read minds and an electromagnetic "anamoly" that can crash planes and possibly heal people... yet they weren't concerned about Those things. No, but this New thing is the one that worries them.
Somehow, this new "twist" has to be even Further out there than anything they have come up with thus far... so, what could it possibly be? My guess is below.
Let's be realists for a second... let's move past any quote that we read or thought that we read for just a moment. The smoke monster that reads minds... is not explainable by any "science" that's out there today. Nanobots would be an interesting guess, but (ignoring the fact that TPTB dismiss the nanobot theory every other week) DHARMA has shown us nothing to make us think that it could come up with nanobots. It relies on a Commodore 64 to save the world for pete's sake. So, how can the smoke monster be explained?
TPTB think that viewers will determine that Lost has shark-jumped because they'll tackle a subject that is Very sci-fi... namely psychic phenomena. They're concerned about it because "Lost" walks a fine line between drama and true sci-fi and it's beginning to look like they're going to step over the line dramatically.
My theory (and I've been floating it around for a while now) is that a child or children are in control of Smokey (and the animals on the island... but that's another post for another time) using their psychic abilities. It reads minds and makes them see things... then it kills them if it deems them to be "bad". The "hand" smashing Eko against the trees and ground... just seemed like the hand of an angry child smashing a toy that he was finished playing with (yeah, I said "he"... little girls play "house", little boys wreck things).
The smoke reads minds, Walt was remote viewing... it just seems as though the next logical step that TPTB are taking is introducing these (and probably other) psychic abilities to the viewing audience. So, what do you think...? Goodness knows we have enough time to just sit and theorize now...

Personally I think it would be delicious to have a strong sci-fi moment.
But maybe the shark-jumping moment is something simpler. The death of Jack say. Some people would be disgusted that one of the "heros" was gone.

I thought Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lily and dominic monahaugn were under contract for at least 2 more seasons... so they cant kill off jack, kate or charlie

I think you're absolutely right in that the "game changing" bomb is going to be a commitment to something sci-fi in nature. The theories of course are endless. Everything does, though, seem to center around the same point in time. With the first three episodes the others will be explained, we will find out what happened to Cindy and the Children, and a major character bomb will be dropped (probably a death). So we'll see! Intriguing for sure!

maybe its like helicopters showing up on the island with reporters n army troops n shizzle or maybe this thing kate and sawyer are working on with the rocks is a large runway which the others will leave the island on when we return if ben survives and jack goes with them..or some of them..remember BEN said he will take JACK HOME,,meaing back to the real world lol or back onto their island..and maybe the character bomb is like kate revealing she loves jack really..and when we heard juliet pumps 2 bullets into someone shocking..maybe its ben, jack, kate, one of our fuselagies etc..i dont think after toying with us in ''I do'' and the first 6 season 3 episodes about killing sawyer they wont kill him for sure..maybe like dharma or hanso appears on the island or suttin..anywways im just ramblin now

Wow, that theory hit dead on what I was thinking. Ever since "The Cost of Living" I thought that Smokey judging people by reading their minds and since the others have a knack for kidnapping kids who are "special" it just seemed logical to jump to that conclusion. My only question is what did the pilot do that was so terrible?

I've been hung up on the term 'Home' since the end of Season Two, when Ben said to Hurley (of Jack, Kate and Sawyer at the Pala Ferry) "We're taking them HOME with us..." It felt like 'home' in this case was being used to indicate inclusion - i.e. it's Jack, Kate & Sawyer's home too! Wouldn't it be more likely that Ben would've said "We're taking them BACK with us..."??? Before the hoods went on, there was a knowing (almost satisfied) look that was shared between Jack & Kate. Almost as if this was their intention in the first place (as for Sawyer...???). So my Game-Changer is that (at least) Jack & Kate are Others too. Has their been a mind-wash? Whose to say their flashbacks are not false/planted memories...? But Jack and Kate have more history with Ben and Co. than we're currently being led to believe...

Being under contract means absolutly nothing in the film and TV business. Sometimes the contract is a red herring in and of itself. Take for example Liam Neeson (sp?) in The star wars prequal trilogy. He was contracted for all three of them but died during the first one. This was a nice way to make people think harder about who was going to die and who wasn't in the next two installments.

Everytime the Black Smoke appears - there are mechanical sounds, I don't think the kids are creating or controlling the 'Smoke' Monster.
When it 'grabbed' Locke last season and tried to pull him down into the ground the same sounds were heard 'Mechanical'
When Mr. Echo was grabbed and slammed against all the trees, it looks as if it was Mechanical....
.....Just a theroy...

Why would kate stay in a cage that she can easily escape? Why did Ben give Kate a farewell dinner and not anyone else? Is it possible kate is an other, manipulating sawyer & jack?

im not so sure about this theory. i do think that the kids may have special powers, however, i dont think its a strong enough plot line for lost. i wouldnt be the slightest bit surprised if one of the main cast were shot. my guess is sawyer as he and kate have now "bred" and thats what he was there for.

Jeffrey, I perceive those "mechanical" noises to be more of a soundtrack, not coming from the smoke itself. Yanno, like the 6 Million Dollar Man didn't actually make ch-ch-ch-ch noises when he ran...its a sound effect used to provide an essence of the powers at work.
